Shermy Wormy.
My family is very much like other families in the US. We live in an average, middle class house, own a dog and pay the bills. Our family dog is an austrailian border collie. She is ten years old and her name is Sherman. I know that she's a girl, but my dad insisted that we call her Sherman. My sister and I have about ten nicknames for her though; Shermy, Shermy wormy, Snoop a loop, Snoppy and so on. This past week she has been very sick. She refuses to eat and has a hard time controlling her bladder. My dad finally took her to the vet and she stayed a few nights. We came to find out that she had a really bad kidney infection and the vet informed us that she may not live through this. Right away I was upset because I grew up with this dog. I played frizbee with her in the front yard all the time and she hogs the bed when she sleeps with me at night. On Saturday we picked her up from the vet and took her home. The vet said that she is doing better, but this will indeed affect her life. She will not live as long and will not be as active and energentic as she usually is. My family and I were extremely happy to have her home. On the down side though, we could all still tell that she was still sick. She spends most of her time laying downstairs by herself. She takes medicine twice daily and doesn't eat much. She's a tough dog though and I know she'll be just fine!

Sorry to hear that about your dog. I know some of us (yes me included) love our dogs and if anything happens to them it's almost as bad as hurting a brother or sister. We grow attached to our canine friends and I for one don't know what I'd do if my little dog passed away. It's good to hear though that Sherman won't be affected right away.
I am so sorry to hear about Sherman. My family is going through a similar situation with our Golden Retriever Maggie. She is 14 yrs old and has horrible arthritis and is having a hard time getting up and walking. My mom had to take her to the vet the other day and it isnt looking good for my poor Maggie. :(
I'm really sorry to hear about that and having to put your dog down. When I was younger I watched my cat get put down and as lame as it sounds, it was one of the hardest things to do. Granted I was about 10 years old and watching a cat get put to sleep is OBVIOUSLY rather tramatizing! Good luck with everything.
sorry to hear about your dog. we had a dog when i was three but we got ride of it because i was too rough with it. then my parents told me that my dad was alergic to them so we never got another one. i found out just a few months ago that he is not really allergic, kinda strange.
That is so sad! My mom married my stpe dad about ten years ago and we had a golden retreiver who was my age. At 17 we had to put him down it was really sad. Then we got a beagle named Bones! he was reckless. He got hit by a train two summers ago and he was only one. I got very depressed that summer. We got antoher puppy later that summer but i never could let go. We got a chocolate lab and shes awsome. Now i have my own dog. Shes my everything. Im just a dog person.
